Conax is delivering encryption to RiksTV, the Pay-TV provider of the terrestrial operation in Norway. RiksTV negotiates with program providers the content that are distributed and sold to Norwegian TV viewers. They have a large network of distributors and their ambition is to be the leading TV-distributor in Norway. Within 5 years they believe to have a customer base of 500.000 to 800.000 subscribers.

RiksTV started the deployment of STBs in parts of Norway in the beginning of September and the launch has so far been very successful with almost 60.000 customers and more than 80.000 STBs out in the market by end of November.

The platform, based on MPEG-4 distribution, is a very modern operation. Norway is one of the first countries in Europe to adopt the new MPEG-4 standard, the heir to the MPEG-2.

“It is good to be able to start an operation without legacy, as this gives us the chance to take advantage of the possibilities made available through the new technology,” states Christian Birkeland, the CTO of RiksTV which is responsible for the STBs for the Norwegian DTT platform. “The collaboration with Conax has been perfect and we feel confident that Conax and RiksTV will have a long lasting and fruitful cooperation” he adds. “From Conax side, we are very happy with RiksTV, as they are very focused on security and has followed our advices and established a platform using the best components available seen from a security point of view,”  comments Geir Bjørndal, COO in Conax.
