Short for Electronic Program Guide. EPG is a server/application that offers consumers information about present and following programs.
HTTP Server to deliver EMMs upon request ("pull") from the CA stream client.
A device that converts an audio or video signal to a specific streaming format, e.g. MPEG-2. The conversion typically includes compression and/or scrambling.
CA application embedded in an STB.
Short for Entitlement Management Message. Encrypted messages sent to the smart card to authorise it for certain access criteria. The EMM contains the actual authorisation data (i.e. entitlements).
Short for Event Information Table. The EIT provides information in chronological order regarding the events contained within each service. This includes information such as event name, start time, duration, etc. EIT is normally presented by an EPG.
Short for Entitlement Control Message. Encrypted message that contains access criteria and control words (CWs). The ECM is decrypted and checked against the access criteria in order to provide authorisation. If authorisation is granted, the CW will be released.
