Short for multiplexer. A device that performs multiplexing. In a DVB context, this device normally performs scrambling of the key component of the head-end.
Enabling management and consumption of CA protected content on several TV-sets simultaneously, located withing the same household. The STBs must be subject to physical or logical grouping of devices. May or may not utilise a home network solution.
Combining individual signals onto a single band of distribution frequencies. Used with satellite, terrestrial broadcast and cable systems.
A mechanism whereby the descrambling of programs controlled by different CA systems requires insertion of the appropriate CA Module into the CI.
The result of multiplexing.
A standard for multimedia for the fixed and mobile web. See also MPEG.
A standard for description and search of audio and visual content. See also MPEG.
Short for Multiple Program Transport Stream. An MPEG-2 compliant transport stream that contains multiple program streams. See also SPTS.
Short for Moving Picture Experts Group. A working group of ISO/IEC in charge of the
development of standards for coded representation of digital audio and video. See also MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and MPEG-7. In digital televison, video and audio information is digitised and compressed using the MPEG compression standard. This compression makes it possible to fit more than one TV signal into the same channel spacing, along with data applications such as interactivity.
The standard on which such products as Digital Television STBs and DVD are based. See also MPEG.
Short for Multichannel Multipoint Distribution System.
Short for Man Machine Interface. General term for the interaction between a system and a user.
Transmission of signals by means of a carrier frequency. See COFDM, QAM, QPSK.
Is used to inform a subscriber that subscription is about to expire, to enable GSM/SMS messaging, promotion, to broadcast important operator information, etc. See Conax CAS Messaging.
Short for Multimedia Home Platform. Definition of generic interface between interactive digital applications and the terminals on which those applications execute.
Short for MediaHighway. Middleware used in STBs.
Type of pairing where the pairing information stored and used within the STB is embedded in memory accessible by the main CPU.
A file checksum: A compact "distillate" of your message. It represents your message, such that if the message were altered in any way, a different message digest would be computed from it. See hash function.
The maturity rating is program specific. It defines the minimum audience age suitable to view the program.
All types of data to be consumed by a consumer. Can be audio, video, multimedia, application, game, document, etc.
Header of media file containing information related to the media file. May include file descriptions, timestamps, ECM, usage rights, etc.
Short for Message Authentication Code. A MAC is a cryptographic checksum for data that allows manipulation of the data during the transfer process to be recognised.
The maturity level is configured in the smart card. It defines the maximum maturity rating the card shall accept. If the maturity rating is higher than the maturity level in the smart card, the consumer will have to enter the CA PIN to start descrambling of the program.
