X.509

An ITU-T digital certificate that is an internationally recognised electronic document used to prove identity and public key ownership over a communication network. It contains the issuer's name, the consumer's identifying information, and the issuer's digital signature, as well as other possible extensions.

XML

Short for Extensible Markup Language. Markup language for documents containing structured information. Structured information contains both content and some indication of what role that content plays.
