Telenor Svalbard, Spitzbergen

Telenor Svalbard started their operation in 2005, offering 39 televisions and 30 radio/music services.

Platform: As part of Telenor's 3play platform for the island Spitzbergen, Telenor offers television and radio/music services encoded in MPEG2 over a fibre and VDSL infrastructure.

Region: The island of Spitzbergen.

Subscriber figures: Telenor Svalbard's services reach out to 98% of the households on Spitzbergen.

Conax CAS7 features
Their services, which are received from satellite are managed by Canal Digital, the largest DTH operator in the Nordic countries, are encrypted by Conax CAS7 system using standard DVB mechanisms. Services that use highly variable bandwidth encoding are transrated to a fixed bandwidth. Such services are descrambled, transrated and re-scrambled by the Conax CAS system located in the IPTV head-end.

TEO LT AB, Lithuania

TEO was previously named AB Lietuvos Telekomas (Lithuanian Telecom) and till 1998 it was the state owned Telco in Lithuania. They started their IPTV services branded as GALA in October 2006. From June 2006 TEO transmits digital-TV signal via its terrestrial network (DVB-T), but has no TV programs rebroadcast licence. In December TEO announced its intention to acquire a cable TV company that has a licence to rebroadcast TV programs via DVB-T network. The combination of IPTV and DVB-T technologies offers the user the optimum possibilities: interactivity, territory coverage and service reliability. The Internet based digital television service ensures the users the highest video and audio quality, as well as TV content management possibilities.

Platform: TEO's current technology platform is a Scientific Atlanta head-end and distribution, Kreatel (Motorola) STBs , TEO together with Kaunas Technology University created middleware and Conax CAS7 Core.

Region: The GALA television is covering the whole territory of Lithuania where TEO has its fixed line network and reaches their subscribers' homes by their voice telephony and Internet service lines. Of course, line's parameters should be sufficient for provision of IP TV services.

Subscriber figures: TEO is forecasting 40 000 GALA TV users by the end 2007, offering a particularly wide variety of services to residents and business - from telephone calls to integrated voice, data, Internet and IT solutions.

Conax CAS7 features
Conax delivers conditional access system, Conax CAS7 Core subscription. Plans for launching of VOD are serious and planned to be implemented during 2007.
