Conax secures content security for Essel Group
Conax Cardless technology serves as core security hub for Dish TV India and SITI Cable Network’s expansion in India

The Conax Cardless technology is integrated in the chipsets of Dish TV India’s new STB to enable the use of multiple layers of content protection.

Essel Group’s Dish TV India, a direct-to-home (DTH) TV provider, and SITI Cable Network, a multi-system operator (MSO), have selected Conax, a Kudelski Group company, as a key partner for their continued expansion into the Indian pay-TV market.

Based on the Conax Contego security hub, Conax Cardless conditional access technology is the key security component integrated in chipsets, and will enable the use of multiple layers of content protection in the new Dish TV and SITI Cable cardless set-top-boxes (STB).

V S Wadhwa, CEO and executive director of SITI Cable, said: “As we continue to advance our footprint in the Indian cable TV market and venture into digitisation in phase three and phase four markets, it is essential that new and cost-effective security solutions are available to us.”

The Conax Cardless technology employs a combination of hardware and software security to provide a hardware root for protection, while the secure software is executed within a purpose-built hardware protected environment (Secure Execution Environment) within the chipset. The technology also provides co-existence with legacy smart card solutions, all based on a single, unified backend.

According to Jawahar Goel, managing director at Dish TV, it is essential for Dish TV to employ flexible solutions that also offers a high level of security as the need for access to premium content, while keeping operational costs low, becomes more critical in the face of increasingly competition.

He concluded: “Conax has been a long-term partner and we believe their strong security solutions will provide an important layer of security to our growing pay-TV business, already servicing over 13 million subscribers.”
