Turksat boasts major growth; anchors Conax security upgrade for expansion of its cable
CabSat 2012, Dubai - February 29th, 2012: Conax, a leading global provider of solutions for protecting multi-device digital content, today announced its agreement with Turksat for deployment of a Conax Contego™ content security solution for its rapidly expanding cable TV operations. In 2008, the Ankara-based cable TV and satellite operator deployed a Conax CAS7 solution for the launch of its new DTV platform. Today, the Conax Contego™ solution enables secure distribution from Turksat’s 26 head-ends, providing 140 TV and radio channels to 600.000 DTV subscribers and providing 55 TV channels to 1.3 million analogue subscribers across the country.

To enhance the Turksat’s substantial operational growth, the operator has completed the upgrade and deployment of the Conax Contego™ platform. The new management system enables Turksat to manage and maintain its extensive operations with ease and flexibility. The platform’s architecture also includes built-in key features such as a comprehensive monitoring solution for early detection of potential issues, to reduce operational risk.

“In 2008, we chose a Conax solution based on its strong security record, wide range of services, reliability, and flexibility. Conax has proven to be a stable security partner, and also provides foresight and support of business models today and for the future, confirms Mr. Abdulkadir Sener, Director Cable TV Systems and Operations, Turksat. The smooth upgrade from CAS7 allowed Turksat to focus on our core business, providing highest quality offering for pay content, without disruptions.

Conax Contego™’s extended redundancy, using Oracle Dataguard™, provides Turksat operations with a safe customer database environment for daily handling of tens of thousands of authorization requests. The platform provides an easy-to-use interface for managing chipset-paired set-top boxes and hybrid environments – an additional level of security for the launch of Turksat’s VOD and interactive services in high-end hybrid set-top boxes.

“Conax customers selecting the Conax Contego™ platform will be equipped with the most modern technologies available for securing content today, says Tom Jahr, EVP Products & Partners, Conax. Conax Contego is a future driven content protection platform, makes security easy to use, offering a highly intuitive graphical user interface scales horizontally, meaning capacity and performance can easily be increased by adding additional hardware. Minimal staffing and competence requirements and reduced hardware costs, as well as redundancy ensuring 24/7 up-time, are built-in features.”

According to Saad Mouneimne, Director Area Sales MENA, “Continuing to work with an open standards, non-proprietary solution from Conax has provided Turksat with the freedom of choice for 3rd party solutions and unlimited scalability for future growth.”

“The size of the Conax Contego platform solution deployed at Turksat is a flagship operation for Conax. We are delighted that they have chosen Conax as their security partner for future growth – affirmation of our strong cooperation. The sheer size of the operation highlights Conax’ ability to deliver new and future-leaning products. Turksat is a highly valued customer and also benchmark for other operators selecting a Conax Contego solution.”
